Nonetheless: it is not absolutely necessary that human beings believe the irrational notions which, in point of fact, most of them seem to believe today; and the task of psychotherapy is to get them to disbelieve their illogical ideas, to change their self-sabotaging attitudes.

Clients over-concerned with perfection tended to engage in neurotic striving or might procrastinate. True perfection is, of course, rarely if ever actually possible, and if then only for a brief moment in time. Yet human beings wear themselves out striving for it, often agonizing and resultantly falling into depression or related dysfunctional states.
